Best time to take DAT?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I would take it early summer at the latest, and apply before you take it if possible. Taking it in May or June would give you enough time to take it a second time before lots of interview invitations have been given out. This way after the 90 days is up, you could potentially take it again in August or September. Of course, the most important thing is to take it when you feel you are ready so maybe you won't have to worry about taking it a second time.

I agree with this. I took mine in sept and if I hadn't done well it would've have been too late to try again.

thanks everyone.. i was thinking of starting to prepare in jan and take it in may so that my application will be complete by june. what do u think? thanks once again

Sounds like you're on the right track. Make sure you're still taking a full course load (at least 12 hours) while studying. You don't want to take the semester off. I would also recommend a biology elective or electives of some sort that might help review DAT biology material. If you're not taking the Kaplan class, I would try and find some way to get a hold of the online workshop materials. Maybe the online course, since it is somewhat cheaper. I also recommend the TopScore CD-ROM. It has pretty good tests, but more than anything, it gets you used to the computer testing setup. Also, make sure you register for the test far enough in advance. I wanted to take my test a particular week in June and I ended up having to drive an hour to the testing center in another city. It ended up working out great since the computer monitors were relatively new. Just something to keep in mind.

i'm in the same boat as you... i'm going to be taking my dat by the 1st week of June. I plan on working on my LOR, personal statement and all that to have it done before the end of March/ April. Once the application opens in May, I'm going to work on it asap and have it completed before the end of May so the only thing left is my dat scores and waiting for my exit transcript from my school.

If you wait til June to take the dat, make sure you take it early june and you have everything else completed and ready to go...

Seems that we are all on the same schedule. Sounds like a good plan. 🙂

From my experience the earlier you take it the better but sometime in June seems perfect to me!

i say take the test in the spring if possible.... this way you can have your application completed in may. plus, you would still have time to retake if you arent happy with your scores.
