Greetings ENT folks,
I am typically on the anesthesia forums but wanted to pick your brains regarding the topic of mucoceles. I recently was diagnosed with a small mucocele that comes and goes on my soft palate. It is really annoying and has been there for a month so I need to have it removed. I have done a search on Pubmed, MD consult and UpToDate to try to find out the best way to treat it. The articles discuss surgery with a scalpel and laser excision. The ENT whom I saw stated that he would remove it with a scalpel under general anesthesia and that it would be a quick procedure. He felt that the C02 laser would cause more tissue destruction that scalpel excision.

I have read some of the data on treatment options and wanted to get any opinions about the accepted standard of treatment for removal of a superficial mucocele on the soft palate: C02 laser vs surgical removal with a scalpel. I read several studies showing that C02 laser is being used with a faster recovery time and low recurrence rate. The studies were done by oral surgeons and dentists.

Any info would be appreciated. Please feel free to PM with with any articles discussing the gold standard of treatment for this or just general opinions on the topic. Thanks.

Pretty sure that no specific medical advice can be offered on this forum.

pretty sure no specific medical advice from a pre-med can be given... anywhere

man up and just get it cut out

I'd do it in the clinic with some local, a blade, and some silver nitrate. You can't find anything because it's not an area of much indecision. Just get it hacked off.
