I don't want to blame the teacher or complain, but I really got screwed over for OChem 2 (if you are interested in what happened see below) and basically learned and retained just about nothing -- even with supplementary materials, another instructor, and a tutor. It's been about 1 year since I took the class. I want to take the DATs this year.

  • How in depth would you say the DATs are in regards to OChem?
  • What is the best way to study for OChem section w/o relearning everything?
Thank you!!

For those who care...
My school got screwed over two good OChem teachers (one had a nervous breakdown over divorce and scandal and the other left for love). They didn't know who was going to teach the class until the week before. They got some old guy who came out of retirement who hardly taught in the class (he rambled off some tangent for 2 hours, twice a week). I didn't feel like I was able to grasp what was going on.

The DAT organic chemistry is not as hard as an o-chem class. It is mostly O-Chem 1 topics and predicting products from common reactions - which do include some OC 2 topics. I found Chad's Videos to be the best resource to learn chemistry. They are very good to not only review from, but learn new material.

No it is not in depth. If you're worried just sit down with DAT Destroyer's O-Chem section and do the questions, then look at solutions and learn all the things you missed.

Other people love Chad's videos since his lectures are apparently clear and his questions are easy (it is also cheaper if you only want O-Chem).

I learned nothing in ochem 2, and just studyed review books and did destroyer once through, and make a small study sheet containing all the mechanisms/reactions. Got a 20 in Ochem, which was my lowest score on the dat's. Got a C- (?) in ochem2. youll be fine for sure, there is very minimal knowledge for ochem on the dat

Chad's videos... I've heard so many great things and for the price, you can't go wrong. You can always buy additional sources for orgo after going through Chad's if you still feel inadequate with orgo info

I would say "Organic chemistry as a second language" book and CHAD.
I had poor background in ochem too
First i watched CHAD and took notes
sometimes i did not get it but i just went along and finished it
then i read the organic chem as a second language books
and then back to CHAD video again

it really helped me a lot

I did Chad's and now I'm doing Organic as Second Language, it's really helping with the basics!!! I recommend the two if you want to get the basics down!
