Best way to email an M.D. about doing research in his lab?

I'm a sophomore. I've been looking through the radiation oncology department in my school's med school and I've found a professor I want to "work with": shadow and possibly work in his lab.

What would be the best way to approach him? I have a small CV prepared (1 page with GPA and summary of research experience and coursework) but that's about it. I'm interested in learning more about rad onc and if at all possible gaining some research experience in his lab. Would it be best to ask if I can shadow him first, then talk to him about his research?

Email him and tell him you want to shadow him and work in his lab and that you are interested in meeting him first. Send him your CV along with it and wait for his response. Good luck!
