I'm planning an interview trip to KCOM. I'm from the west coast so I'll be flying to Mizzou. Should I fly into Kirksville, or drive? Any other options? What is the best way to get there?

Driving from KC is about three hours. St. Louis may be closer, but it's always best to fly into the city you interview in if possible...especially in december when it can snow in a momments notice.

ink PM'd me about this a few days ago! 🙂 Since then, I've thought about it a bit more...

Flying into Kirksville in winter is iffy, IMO. Very often, flights get delayed or turn back to St. Louis due to poor visibility. Kirksville's airport is VERY small. I don't mean small, I mean SMALL. One shack by the runway kinda small. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate having it here, but I have only used it in emergencies.
Plus, you HAVE to fly to STL to get the tiny plane to KV.

STL is about 3.5 easy hours from KV driving; KC is about 3 easy hours from KV.

While xCanadianRagwee's advice about flying into your interview city may be perfectly fine for those going to "real" cities, I would trust the roads more than the KV airport. Especially in Jan/Feb.

Amtrak goes to LaPlata, about 15 min. south of KV. There is no car rental at the station, but your hotel/motel in KV may be able to pick you up if you choose the train. I personally love traveling by train. Unfortunately, you can't fly in to STL and take a direct train to LaPlata. You CAN fly to KC or Chicago and take a train to LaPlata, though.

There, that's my spiel. Good luck on making your arrangements and with your interview! 🙂

I'd still take the flight into Kirksville. It might be slow but the times that I've had a major problem due to weather at the small airports I've always received ground transportation to get me there.

You fly into St. Louis, and take a connecting flight to Kirksville.
