Planning to apply this cycle around late June to early July.

Have been shadowing an OMFS for the past 1.5years now; working as a research postbacc (full time job).
Took the past month to study for DAT and will take exam late June.

Spoke with some adcomms and they mentioned they like to see recent general dentist shadowing (my most recent general dentist was summer of 2013). Have volunteered at hospital and shadowed an MD (rare disease) in 2015.

Planning to start shadowing a general dentist starting july after my DAT but planning to have my application sent by then... should I submit my experiences then add the general dentist shadowing I plan on doing at a later date around September?

Is it possible to submit application with 6 highlighted experiences then change the highlighted experiences??
Would adcoms look negatively at me if my GD shadowing is not a highlighted experience??

edit; made edits to clean up the wall of txt a bit.

tl;dr - how much emphasis do schools put on highlighting a GD experience?

I am not sure if schools will look poorly on whether or not you include a GD experience in you highlighted parts. I think though that you are not allow to include future plans for things like shadowing. I would read the instructions to make sure but I believe it says that you can only include what you have done.

Keep in mind that many schools that have shadowing hour requirements say that those hours are required at the time of application. So if it is not done before you apply, you may be out of luck.

Regarding this, no you will not be able to change which experiences you highlighted. Also, you will not be able to change any of those experiences you had at the time of submission, you'll only be able to add new ones.
Not sure if they will look on it negatively or not, but you do have some hours from a GP although they are old, and you have more recent hours from an OMFS. But then again, you apply to dental school to ultimately become a GP...specialization comes after....and who knows if you'll even be able to specialize...so they do want you to know what a being a GP entails. Couldn't you start shadowing now, maybe 1-2 hours a week, and pick up more after your DAT?

Best way to include anything “planned” is to have it completed before submitting.
