Hi,

I am a PGY 1 in the midst of the 1st internship month of Psychiatry (was off service prior to this). I am getting heavily pimped with regards to the receptor profiles of drugs especially the varied 2nd gen antipsychotics and their corresponding effects and therefore, theoretical and actual use to treat ancillary symptoms of psychotic patient and thereby guide the choice between the many 2nd gens.

I know I could do a detailed review of each drug, but right now my schedule doesn't allow that. I was wondering if there was a quick and concise resource anyone could recommend to learn the varied 5-HT receptors etc and also to learn the receptor action profiles of the 2nd gens?

Thanks in advance.

Are there any videos or lectures to watch for intern year level pharm and stuff Or do we have to sit there and read stalhls and the other books? I hate reading...

Stahl's recommends reading through the figures on the first pass through the book. You can also pick up the prescriber's guide which will give some general information regarding receptor profiles.

Are there any good videos at all though? Like in med school there are tons of video resources and questions, for IM there’s a great lecture series on YouTube for residents, anything similar for psych?

I believe this was in reference to the extremely short attention spans that have become more prevalent

Not sure. I'm old and read books.

Unfortunately this is a field where if you don't read, and, like, a lot, your knowledge will always be incredibly superficial and your sophistication as a clinician deeply limited.

Damn, I guess it’s off to the library...
