I'm not really the spring break party type, so, other then studying or just taking time off, what would be some good things to persue for a pre-med during spring break. Does anyone know of any programs specifically for premeds that are available out there? I'm looking for something other then the standard advice of "community service or shadow a doctor." Anyone have any leads for things in the tampa bay or fort lauderdale area that I can follow up on?

Also.. does SDN or any other sites maintain a good standing list of doctors that accept medical students for shadowing listed by City/region or is this something we all need to make our own phonecalls on?

Thanks-

Jason

I'm going to Peru to volunteer in a hospital there.

Does your college organize an alternative Spring Break? At mine, there's a weeklong trip during break every year to build a Habitat for Humanity house.

I don't know if that's too "standard" for you though.

🙂 I'm going skydiving with my dad and boyfriend

Yes, I registered to be a part of Alternative Spring Break (ASB) and I'm SOOOO excited about doing it. Plus, I get to see NYC. For us, we get to choose a variety of different options ranging from the Ronald McDonald House at the Prediatric Cancer Hospital in Texas to Homelessness at the Bronx which is the one I'm going to.

Even if your school does not offer the ASB program I would encourage you to see if you could somehow go to one. I think it'll be an awesome experience!

Hawaii for a week.

I recommend my four collegiate spring break destinations: Cancun, Breckenridge, Bahamas, and Key West. I gave a homeless guy on a street corner in Cancun a few bucks...how's that for community service huh?

Weird, I went to Key West frosh year and Breck soph year, and am going to Cancun this year! Of course, I wont have a few bucks to give a homeless guy, but if he doesnt mind some Natty Ice, he's covered.

Also, my junior year I went to Panama City Beach in FL...absolutely not a positive, educational experience, but probably the most awesomenest week of non-stop party you'll ever have(unless you go to state school, ahahaha   ) Seriously, bring like 250 cash and as much beer as you and 11 of your buddies can cram into your Saturn 2 door and head out there, dont need a hotel cause you wont be sleeping, just pass out on the beach.
