Hi, I am currently living in Costa Rica and have always wanted to go to dental school. I graduated from the University of Kansas in December, and now I'm taking a break from school. I would love to study dentistry, but I don't have the best grades and I would rather not be in so much debt when I get out of school, so I am considering going to dental school here in Costa Rica. If I graduate from dental school here and then want to specialize, could I just apply to orthodontic school or periodontic school and then get my licensing through that program? I'm not really sure how all that works. Thank you so much for you time!

Best advice for you would be to go back to the U.S. and get your dental degree there. If you don't have the best grades, try to boost up your Cirriculum, by going into a post bach program (aim for A's) , maybe get into research/investigations and work as a dental assistant for now. Study hard for the DAT's also! I am a US citizen also and I did what are thinking of doing. In some ways it was for the better but it is very difficult to get back into the U.S. I am going thru my appl. process right now and it is highly competitive! Whatever you do, think about it before you get into it!

I am guessing you went to Arizona State? Am i right? I have a few friends that live around that area that went to school with me in Colorado. Anyways, as for study material, go with kaplan review book if u can get a hold of one, also try to study dental decks and dental NBDE review questions and answers. I heard that the book anatomy made easy helps a whole lot! you can go to any dental school library and they should have them there. you can also check amazon.com. Good luck!

I appreciate your input Dr. Ace. Need all the info I can get.
