Technology Best wireless printer to go with MacBook

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Because it's a lot easier to use Apple hardware.

Ask her if she even knows what "bridge to her router" means.

I am going to cheerfully admit that, no, I do not, but I am always willing to learn. There was a time when I did not know how to post a link, an image, and as Chocolate Bear can attest, only a few weeks ago I learned how to do a screen shot. And I did get my nano Touch up and running without help. I'm clueless but not hopeless.

For some, the learning curve is steep, but not insurmountable.

Oh, and Blue Dog? Sarcasm is hot.

Space cadet?

There's an iPhone app for that 🙂

Don't tempt me. I've spent a lot of money on apps lately.

OK...I have until Friday to resolve this. Then I have to fish or cut bait. Last words of wisdom, holy cyber-water, whatever. Hit me. Because this weekend, it will be resolved, one way or another.

Well simple way to fix this

Plug the airport directly into the wireless modem, don't need anything between the modem or the airport. Then do a hard reset on the airport, with it plugged in push the small round button on the back (follow this)

Then once the airport is restarted select it as an option from the available networks. Should say AppleNetwork_something. Run airport utility which is located in the utilities folder of your applications folder.

Plug in printer into Airport

Done.

Isn't it, though? I'm glad you appreciate it. 😉

So, how did you end up resolving things? Enquiring minds want to know.

Blech. I wound up getting sick over the weekend. No shopping/time for tech thinking. Then I had ACLS all day Tuesday. (Speaking of things that make you sick.) The dream is deferred until this weekend. Looks like my first chance at resolving this will be Sat. or Sun.

What's really sad is to see a good sarcastic comment go sailing over the head of your object of derision.

I am finally getting a printer for my Mac. It's an hp 6500. It's being installed on Wed. by a local company that specializes in Macs. (What? You think I'm gonna do it myself? Bah.)

I just realized it only took nine months from the last time I posted about this till I finally did something about it. Yeah, a bit of procrastination.

Why do you need a company to come and install the printer? Are you doing it wirelessly or wired?

And hey... I know I've been absent from these forums but you've been gone awhile also

I need someone else to do it because I have zero patience with computers. I punched my Dell. I don't want to punch my Mac.

It's being installed wirelessly. I'd rather pay someone to do it, and do it bloodlessly, than have my place look like an abattoir if I try to do it.

I've been around, just not on this forum. I haven't posted much in the other forums. I was busy with moving and some other stuff.

Well, since rotations started, I've not been around much either. Plus nothing interesting has been posted here

But you are getting fancy with big words, I had to look that one up

Oh and totally get an iPad next... so awesome

Aw, heck...I knew that one since I was a little kid. There used to be "Hershey Abattoir" trucks all over my area.

iPad v rent or putting more money in savings. No contest.

#@^!&*!!!

No, the printer is not printing, even though it cost me $150 to have it installed. Yes, I left a blistering message with the "Mac" specialists who installed it. Stupid thing is sitting there, mocking me.

Why do you need a "specialist"? Isn't it supposed to "Just Work"?

Geez, Louise...didn't they test it before they left? 😕

Unfortunately, I wasn't there. DOD was there. Now DOD is in the Outer Banks, so not exactly reachable. Hopefully, the Mac specialists will get back to me tomorrow, if they know what's good for them, or I will bomb-call them every 15 minutes till I get resolution.

OK, well, now it's printing, no thanks to "Macheads." I called hp, and a couple of clicks here and there fixed the problem. Macheads solution was for me to drag the printer and my laptop to their shop today to see what the problem was, or wait until Monday when a technician was available and potentially have to pay again for another visit. I don't think so.

That, plus they never returned my call. I had to call them back after leaving a message. "Oh? You called?" What a waste of money.

Oh now I know that you are only a few hours east of me...

and you could have saved yourself the hassle if you had just bought an airport base station... 😛

Googled them, did you?

I had an Airport base station, but it was one of the few things that got lost when I moved. My router died and went to electronics heaven in the move as well. Other than that, no other casualties.

Sounds just like my mother. She just has to look at a piece of electronic equipment and it explodes.

I'm pretty sure I mentioned this before, but I blew up a Mr. Coffee years ago. I was in my early 30s then; can you imagine the kind of destruction I'm capable of now? 😉

Well when you quote them multiple times in the same post, it's hard not to pick up on them... besides their website is atrocious, it's like a picture only. No links, no real information on it... kinda sad really

They also lie and say they're the only local source for apple products. Duh, there's an apple store at the mall. It was there before they opened.

Um...they sell Airport base stations at the Apple Store, y'know. 😉

You missed the part where I said I didn't want to get my hands dirty having to do anything with setting up. My idea of installing is plug it in, turn it on, have it work instantly. If it gets any bloodier than that, I want no parts of it.

As it turned out, I did wind up having to do some of the set up. It wasn't as bad as I thought, but I'm still pissed that I spent that money for nothing.

That's what I've been telling her since this whole mess started... did she listen to me? Noooooo... Why? Because I'm a man, that's why. Silly woman, thinking that I would lie to you... sheesh

If someone would have 'splained it to me, I might have tried it. I had one once but it never worked right, probably because I wasn't setting it up right.

After reading that, I don't think I had Airport. I'm not sure what it was I had, but in any event, it got lost. It didn't have a bunch of lights. I thought it was more like a traffic light, IIRC.

In any event, the printer is installed now.
