Of course, the answer to this question will be quite subjective. And I'm aware that a school's campus doesn't make or break a school. Still, I think it would be interesting to get everyone's take on which school has the nicest campus regardless of its program.

Of all the schools you interviwed at, which school had the best and worst campus in your opinion?

The worst campus I have been to is Western's. A medical school in a strip mall combined with being located in Pomona isn't my idea of an ideal campus.

I really liked AZCOM's and LECOM's campuses. They were both small and new, plus I really felt comfortable at both.

this is a tough one-- i didn't see a lot of schools-- azcom was really nice (of course i'm going there so i'll be biased) UHS was more compact than i expected but quite nice. I really liked DMU's campus as well-- i loved des moines!!! if azcom was in des moines this would have been the easiest decision!
Touro might be the worst-- purely asthetically speaking. i had the creeps everywhere but between the main building and the library.
i've heard nova and pcom have nice campuses-- any input??

I like AZCOM's campus but a lot has to do with it being in Phoenix. The weather and mountain scenery is amazing there.

But I heard PCOM has a great location in Philadelphia. I heard it's in a much better area than some of the other medical schools around there.

What about NOVA? I have never been there but you would think it couldn't be too bad. It's in Ft. Lauderdale.

I wasn't impressed with TUCOM or Western. However, I do like the city of Pomona. Sure, there is nothing to do in Pomona (there is nothing to do in Glendale either) but Pomona is a safe city and it's not far from the rest of So Cal.

From the campuses I have visited (MSUCOM, TUCOM, Western/COMP, and KCOM) I would have to say that the nicest campus was MSUCOM. I really liked the fact that the medical school was a part of a larger campus (and by larger I mean HUGE campus!). The campus in East Lansing was absolutely gorgeous and the feel of the town was comfortable and welcoming(a definite college town, if you like that) . However, as far as the school's facilities are concerned, I would have to say that COMP had the nicest. Their classrooms, labs, and library were all very new and nice.
The worst campus (not to offend anyone attending there) was TUCOM. I thought that the island and campus were very unattractive and the nearby town of Vallejo was not a place I would have liked to live. Although I will be honest, I didn't get to do much exploring around the town.
I can't leave out KCOM though. They had by far the NICEST people I have ever met. I really considered attending there, but in the end the town left a lot to be desired. But as far as the students and staff are concerned they had the best.

PCOM and Nova both have very nice campuses. I find Nova's campus to be a bit bigger but PCOM's campus is aesthetically nicer. (Maybe that's because I am from Florida and I find Philly's architecture to be an innovation. lol) Also, this is the case since Nova is a part of a bigger campus. In terms of sports facility, PCOM wins hands down. Their gym is even used by the 76ers. Nova's gym is almost nonexistent since it is practically a room with a few options.
I must say that both campuses are impressive. City-wise, they are different. Fort Lauderdale is a quiet area and not extremely busy. Nova's location is nice because you have many places you can eat around the area as well as apartments. Philly, on the other hand, is much bigger but very nice as well. It is not a bad area at all, but it seems to me that a car may be a necessity since the city is big.
If you ask me to choose which one is nicer, it would be tough because both are nice in their own way. 😛

There are three reasons that I don't find the facilities at Touro horrific...

1) I only interviewed at Touro and Western
2) I had rose-colored LASIK eye surgery before the application cycle started, which I think I have to have redone soon..
3) I really want to go to school there...

I've interviewed at three DO schools: Health Sciences, Des Moines, and Nova. Nova would win hands down out of the three. The facilities there were very new, spacious, and comfortable. Not to mention the beach 15 minutes away and Miami only a half hour to the south. Nova's landscape and appearance is very appealing, too. Des Moines was nice--a newer building, some older buildings, and one building being torn down. KC had nice facilities, but the neighborhood was pretty rough--but the facilities and buildings within the small campus were nice. So, Nova, Des Moines, and then KC in that order.

It's so funny to read what people's opinions about the same locations are!

I have interviewed at LECOM and COMP so far. I thought LECOM itself was nice enough, very modern and new, but Erie...let's face it, one doesn't move to Erie unless there's a damned good reason (like med school). And all that bloody snow!

I totally dug COMP. I grooved on the strip mall vibe and the fabulous gay bar (Robbie's) located inbetween the administration building and the lecture halls. Only in California! It still cracks me up just thinking about it. They even have pictures of drag queens in a little display on the outside. I'm not gay or anything (or a man) but it's amusing all the same. Plus, COMP has super nice facilities. I'm not sure why everyone is always dogging Pomona, but clearly they haven't lived in some truly depressing places (like Waltham, MA or Hartford, CT).

SO it guess it's all up to the individual. My interview at TUCOM is 4/9 and I'm hoping I won't be the victim of any random gang violence. I'm planning to stick by the hotel, though, so all should be well.

I've only visited the TUCOM campus once, and yes, it's not breathtaking, but you'll be safe on the school grounds. There are rough neighborhoods situated close by, but it's not like you're going to frequent them. About the proximity of SF, traffic is the main factor. Traffic is always the main factor! But realistically, you won't be planning a trip to SF unless you had free time, so don't worry about it. Many med schools are located in "rough" urban areas (JHU, USC, etc. come to mind) but the tradeoff is the excellent exposure to this kind of patient population.

Aesthetically speaking, NOVA looks amazing. But I just can't imagine rain on an 80 degree day...

I interviewed so far at OUCOM and LECOM. LECOM was very nice with its new state of the art building. However, I personally liked OUCOM much better. Maybe I am partial because I am coming straight from undergrad and I found OUCOM to be asthetically pleasing because it's right on OU's campus. Also you have access to the rec center, which is one of the best rec centers I have seen for college campuses, sadly LECOM has three treadmills and I think two bikes... Finally, OU has the BEST halloween party, for those of you who know, you will understand when you mention OU's halloween frenzy. However, both campuses were very nice. Hopefully, I will also be able to give input on PCOM in the near future 🙄

I loved Azcom and UHS.

Hated Touro. Even though I liked the school, I just couldn't believe the disrepair of the island. TUCOM would have a lot more going for them If they could just fix it up a bit!!

kappa, in touro's defense, b/c the island is still technically federal land, they must follow super strict guidelines for remodeling. They must leave the color of paint and can't alter certain details--check out the men's room-- everyone heard me laugh outside the bathroom!!😀 I think those restrictions have been a thorn in the side for touro.

I thought western's campus was nice. Even though it use to be a mall, the facilities were decent. Pamona isn't such a bad place, and they have apartments right next to school so you can walk to class. I mean it's not as bad as TUCOM.

What are you smoking sharky?!?!

Pomona isn't such a bad place?!?!?! You must not be from So Cal!
And you thought western's campus was nice???? Wow, it's the worst medical school campus I've seen.

But, I can't compare it to TUCOM because I didn't apply there.

As far as nicest, I would have to go with CCOM.
MSUCOM wasn't bad. MSU's campus is extremely nice. Actually it's one of my favorite campuses. The med school building though is nothing special.

You must be sharing your drugs with Sharky!

Pomona is not a "safe" city.

What about UNE? The southern coast of Maine, with the ocean in your backyard. Of course you can only swim in it two months of the year but it is still nice to look at.

I was born in Vallejo and lived there until I left for college on the East coast. There is not much to do in Vallejo, but it is near Napa wine country and not too far from SF. There are quite a few rundown areas, especially downtown. The town is about as unremarkable as every other suburb across America.

If you are contemplating settling and raising kids there, know that the private elementary schools in the area are decent, but the high schools--both public and private--leave much to be desired. I have friends and family who still live there, so if anyone has any questions about Vallejo, feel free to ask.

Yes, it's true that Sharky and I are sharing the same drungs. 🙂 But "safe" is a relative term in So Cal. Yeah, Pomona is not Anaheim Hills but it certainly isn't anything close to resembling USC's neighborhood either.

And CCOM having the best campus? I think you were smoking crack alongside Sharky and I because AZCOM has a much better campus than CCOM and that's our sister school Midwestern. Even CCOM students admit that we have the nicer campus, although they will argue that they have the better program.

A better question?

Why is everyone getting so damned aggressive on this site? Good God. "What drugs are you smoking?" Are you 12? I'm not sure why there is so much animosity over people's friggin' opinions about location. Give me a break. Don't like Pomona? Don't go there. As far as violence, I happen to live in the suburb of Houston where the woman murdered her 5 children AND had my 10 year HS reunion at the hotel where Clara Harris ran over her husband. So, there. I live in the hood too.

Do I win?

Next thing you know, Brian's going to start dogging TUCOM and this whole site will have gone to hell!

😉

I can't believe nobody has mentioned the epitomy of cool campuses ... (banjo playing in the background) ... PCSOM! Pikevegas is where it is at! Ask anyone...beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

Your mileage may vary...

Elysium,

As much as I want to hate Touro for putting me on their low waitlist, I really cant be... Touro is still a very strong school, whether or not I am a student there...

I am going to go and visit Touro in a few hours and ask Dr. Haight if there is anything I can do to improve my chances to get picked up off the waitlist and then go to Western on Thursday to ask Susan Hanson the same because I have nothing better to do other than marinate in the warm California sun and imagine being a medical student...

See you soon...

Uhh...I don't think the corner of El dorado and El Camino could be considered the hood.
Allthough, there is only one golf course in that neighborhood - and public, no less.
