Beta, Positron, etc.. WTF?

Can someone please lay down the laws of these stupid nuclear emissions. Some books talk about Beta + and Beta -, While others use just Beta but then have positron emission and electron emission. I'm so lost because every book uses different terms. Can someone please outline them and possibly have a good way to remember this stuff. Thanks so much.
