arguably the worst psychiatry residency program in the U.S.

FYI: as far as caribbean grads, they like IMGs from SABA, but they are anti-SGU.

This is true. One of their staff psychiatrists (C-L psychiatrist) graduated from SABA, so he likes to recruit them to IOL.

bump, what is SABA? the C/L attending I interviewed with went to Ross. I think that this program also responds to second looks for ranking - just as I'm sure most programs do, I'm not so sure its that they just don't rank if they didn't send you a follow up letter.

edit: I also wanted to add that the PD never lied to me about prematch offers during my interview. She didn't say anything at all about them but I think a lot of programs, not just this one makes prematch offers to IMG's - which is fine, thats how a lot of the programs select their residents isn't it? They get to pick the top ones they want that are IMG's and offer them matches - I thought this was standard for any res.

I don't think you need to "beware" of the IOL. It's not like they're evil or anything. The whole issue of match and prematch guarantees is a very tough one, and they seem to be within the bell curve. My second-hand observation is that they have a core group of smart faculty who helped restart the program a few years ago. I assume that they're still getting their sea legs--I'm not even sure if they've graduated their first class. I also heard that one of their residents got very sick soon after starting the program and that the entire program was very supportive of her throughout her illness (she died a few months ago). I wouldn't know if it's a good choice for anyone in particular, but I would certainly consider it.

They have NOT graduated their first class yet - they will be next year. And I would definitely strongly consider this program - its got some weird rap now that two people have posted something about it - check this program out for yourself or look at my review on Post Intervew Thread - too much personal bias is going around.
