Hi .. I am planning on taking the DAT this summer. I am taking ochem II this spring, however, the ochem II lab is full. For some reason, the lecture is 250, but the lab is only for 100. Anyway, do you think it is ok if I take ochem II in the fall? Or, do is it imperative I take it before and DAT and before I apply to dental school? Since I already emailed the prof who's in charge, and he says it's closed. I can be really persistant and annoying if needed.

Thanks, Erica T.

I'm going to take the DAT without my OCHEM II as well. I find as I'm studying, that OCHEM I is sufficient enough for me. I just have to read and learn about a few things but our OCHEM I covered many reactions and such. I was told by a dental student that he also took the DAT without OCHEM II and did just fine.
😀

Can you take the class and the lab during different semesters?

umc beat me to the punch, i was also thinking you should just take the class and take the lab later. in my experience having the class at the same time helped but wouldn't be essential to do well in lab.

ochem I is fine for the DAT. Most stuff in ochem II is not covered. Just get the kaplan book and see if you understand all the concepts presented. There may be a few things you haven't seen before, but I'm sure with a base knowledge of ochem I you could easily teach the rest to yourself.

You could consider taking organic II at another local university or even at a junior college.

just a thought
