I've received a full tuition scholarship to Morehouse School of Medicine but my other option is Emory University School of Medicine where I am receiving a $30k financial aid grant for the first year. What should I do?

Can you elaborate on your career goals, what's important to you in a school, your impressions of the two schools, and any other factors that might play into your decision?

Well I think I would like to specialize after med school in cardio, ortho, or maybe anesthesia. That being said, I know for such specialties school name can effect your chances of matching for certain residencies.
I really enjoyed the feel of campus life, students, and faculty for both schools, however Emory's curriculum is more conducive to my learning style and also offers more avenues to conduct research.
Both schools are in Atlanta and fairly close to home and both do clerkships at Grady hospital, but Morehouse focuses on training primary care physicians.
I favor Emory but MSM is much more affordable.

Are you only receiving the 30K for the first year? If you receive it each year pending good academic standing, the difference would be much closer (basically full vs half tuition).

Well it's a financial aid grant, so I receive a different amount each year depending on my family's income.

Unless your family's income has a good chance of going up in the next 3-4 years, I think you will likely receive aid comparable to the 30K the following years.

I would check into the idea of the aid changing by asking current Emory students if aid is something that is really important for you; I have a friend who is really struggling with the med school taking away most of his aid his second year whereas the reasons are totally ridiculous. I honestly chose a big name school over another well known school where I had a full ride and no money at the big name, and I'm happy with my choice because the big name school connected me with so many amazing mentors, opportunities, and showed me a way to think and aspire in a way that likely wouldn't have happened at the other school. For me, Emory would be the no-brainer here unless finances were a significant concern or you felt like you'd be unhappy at Emory.

Last week I sent an email to Emory's director of FA telling him about what Morehouse was offering. This week here emailed me back adding a $16k scholarship to my FA matching the value of Morehouse's scholarship. I couldn't be more happy! Ask and you shall receive
