Background: I do not intend to read robbins at this point (posts in the past were mostly concerned with which one to read... I did do a search). It is too late and I just don't have time. My school does not use Robbins, instead they prescribe various smaller books for each block (Think Lilly for cardio). There are various associations and risk factors in First Aid for which I do not understand why they are true. I need one good source to find information because using the internet/access medicine is frustrating.

Question: I hate reading out of a computer screen so I plan to invest in either papa robbins or mama robbins (I already own baby robbins). For my purposes, should I just get the papa robbins? I have heard that the mama robbins is almost identical to the papa robbins so in the words of Natalie Imbruglia:

I'm torn

I bought medium robbins, but ended up not using it and instead using big robbins online as my reference. I hate reading off the computer screen too, but the ease of searching online combined w/the quick little bursts of reading you'd be doing if it's only as a reference make online big robbins pretty money

Don't expect all those little associations to have mechanisms though. Lots of them just "are"

I bought large robbins and used it maybe 2 times this semester so far. I think its a little overkill

What do I lose by getting medium robbins? If I lose pathophysiology then it defeats the point of having a reference. Any thoughts?

I read them both, but if I had to choose one, I'd go w/ the medium Robbins. The big Robbins is a beast w/ lots of minutia. In the end, the way we learn is by repetition, it's not so much 'what' you read, but how many times you go over the material.

I own both. Get big Robbins. If you're grabbing Robbins to look up a case or clarify something then it might as well be detailed. You don't want to use a condensed version for reference. If I actually sat down and read a chapter which no one does, then medium is best.

In the end, I only use it for cases or clarification. Rarely for the lectures unless something is unclear.

Man up (or woman up) and read big Robbins.

I agree, and you can definitely get the same material much more quickly using something like Goljan, but I somewhat appreciate the level of detail in Big Robbins. It's not information that I'll ever remember, but I like that almost everything is clearly explained, or if it isn't, the text admits that knowledge is lacking.

Despite that, it's definitely not an efficient use of time. If you're worried about time, Goljan + Pathoma = a winning combo. Pathoma to learn/review the basics, Goljan to fill out the missing details. I read Robbins more as some kind of masochistic enjoyment than because it's the best resource to have.

i liked big robbins because it was well written. sometimes bullet points just don't give the same sense of having read about something and feeling that you've understood it.

Big Robbins = not very useful. You're going to forget the majority of what you read.

Medium Robbins = decent textbook. Good if you enjoy learning from textbooks.

Pathoma = Absolute money! The text along with the videos is pure high yield.

Goljan Rapid Review = Absolute money! The text is amazing.

I just use Pathoma + Goljan + FA and it's a great combo.
