hey guys, hoping you guys can drop some knowledge on me. when you are in office and perform a dermatologic procedure - punch/shave biopsy, excision, curettage (or trigger point injection, minor procedure, etc.) and you bill for it, are you reimbursed at a rate that is different from the specialist who performs the exact same procedure?

No difference for Medicare and Medicaid but commercial insurance rates will depend upon the fee schedule you are under.

why isn't this done more frequently? do fp's not feel comfortable handling the results or something?

Do what more frequently? Punch biopsies?

I know that I often don't have time to address lots of patients skin - unless it is their chief complaint. It is hard talking about CAD/DM/HTN and then doing a full skin check+procedure and keep it so you are not behind.
