Hi.... I was wondering if anyone knew how much pharmacists billed per hour for private consulting for a LTC or Hospice facility (chart reviews etc).

I know that companies like Omnicare usually hire pharmacists to do this and pay them on average the same as retail or hospital staff pharmacists, but I was wondering if you took out the middleman and happened to be lucky enough to get a few facilities to hire you how much you could be making per hour.

In addition does anyone know anyone who actually does this on there own not being associated with a big company like Omnicare?

I'm considering doing a specialty residency in geriatrics and wanted to know if this is a viable option in the future (after several years of practice expereince of course)

I did some thread searches on "consulting pharmacy" and have already checked out ascp..but I'm looking for specific numbers..

thanks!!!!

I don't recall anyone on this board having enough experience to properly answer your question. You maybe best served by networking and attending your state's pharmacy association meeting and make some contacts with people outside of the town you live in. I am sure the people you meet will become valuable resources to you

I know quite a few friends who just graduated and are doing consulting but all for big companys. Thats an interesting concept of doing to independently, hmm.... Either way I think its an awesome field (I did a consulting rotation) and u make just as much as the retail folks

yeah.. I've been skimming this board for like 4 years now.. ever since I was young ambitious college grad looking into pharm school.. (now I am a not so young , bitter, but still ambitious pharmacy grad  ) and I dont think i remember anyone who has much consulting experience in this field... maybe that "gravyrph" fellow? he seemed to know everything..I figured i'd take a shot though.

my guess is that it would be about $75-$100 an hour? or maybe thats just wishful thinking.. one of my freinds said it might be 150-200 if you took out the middleman... but i'm skeptical..

If you cant bill for more than $50 an hour however there is no use working for yourself.. the big companies will pay the same...
