So yea, I'm a new undergraduate freshman and I'm having a hard time choosing a major between Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology (I'm Premed). I loved biology in HS, but never covered topics such as biochemistry separately but rather in Biology Class and I found it very interesting. Never actually studied Pharmacology, but it looks very intriguing as well. What do you guys recommend, I'm interested in all of them - LoL. What exactly is covered in these majors/topics (I'm sure it varies from university-to-university but in general, I'm a freshman at Stony Brook University). Ofcourse, Ill be applying to medical school in a few years, and perhaps may look into getting a PhD to become a medical-scientist either simultaneously or after I obtain my MD. All suggestions are welcome!

Medical scientist eh? I love you starry-eyed freshmen.

Doesn't matter. Whichever one you like.

Look up the major requirements and what classes each major takes and it will give you a better idea of which one to pick.

Pharmacology sounds interesting. There are not many schools that offer that unique major.

This is your first semester, right? Don't choose your major yet. Take the intro class for each and see which one you like most. Your major doesn't matter, I can't stress that enough. What matters is getting good grades and doing what you like. While a strong background in science can help you marginally in med school, it's not a significant enough effect on which to base your decision.

That said, Pharm sounds the most interesting to me, but don't let us make your decision for you!

The thing with taking the classes first is there might not be an intro class for pharmacology or biochemistry available to a freshman. Usually all of those type of majors overlap with the freshman bio and chem classes.

Good point. Of course, it's always possible to pick a major in order to register for a particular class and then change your major later. And most schools don't require you to choose a major finally until the end of sophomore year.
