Just found this site. Sorry if this questioned been answered.
I am a bio-enginneering major 3.66 GPA
MCAT 11 PS
10 BIO
8 Verbal
School committee ranked me a Strong to Outstanding candidate.
Excellent work, volunteer and EC activity.
Do I have a good chance or should I retake the MCAT?
"Strong to Outstanding". You mean your committee ranks their pre-meds! Sheeesh. Anyway, I say you are fine. If the committee says that you are a "strong to outstanding candidate" than you shouldn't worry too much about acceptance. You have a strong GPA (esp. in engineering). Your MCAT is decent (not GREAT). You def. have a chance.
You will see people in these boards with ridiculuously high MCATs and GPAs. Don't let them get you down. SDN is not a fair representation of most pre-meds. You have a good shot.
I am a bio and mechanical engineer (master's level)...so I understand how much work it is to get that GPA.
BUT...I have some questions for you
1. Where do you want to apply to? While your scores arent terrible, they might make you a bit less competitive than other applicants if you are seeking upper tier schools. A point or 2 higher could theoretically make you more competitive by getting you past initial filters for med schools.
2. Where are you studying? And how does it rank in terms of engineering schools? While it makes reletively small differences, it can still be a factor.(ie MIT vs. Smalltime state college). I say this because I attended a top 6 undergrad which also happens to be a top 3 or 4 med school and we had many pre-med advising forums that reiterated the significance of undergraduate institution.
i have numbers very similar to yours...my premed committee was optimistic and told me not to hold back in applying some dream schools... (tho we have to accept the fact that we're a dime a dozen...so i think we need to kick some arse in interviews)
