I just finished my bio final and I feel that I failed miserably because it could bring my grade down to a C if I dont make at least a 66 (but i feel like I got a 50 on it). Would it be a good idea for me to send an email to my professor asking what the lowest possible grade for a B- could be? I am extremely worried right now about my exam and I feel like I just have to do something or I won't be able to sleep.

sure it wouldn't hurt

I would probably wait and see what happens. You're e-mailing a professor for a grade that both you and he/she does not know about. Wait and see what the grade ends up being. If it's bad go look at the test and try to speak w/ the professor in person. It'll be quite difficult though to get a grade change on a bio test unless it's a free response test. GL and let us know what happens.

The teacher has better things to do. You'll get what you get. You'll know if you met the minimum requirement for a B if you received a B.

I wouldn't. Maybe you didn't do as bad as you think you did. I have had a few times when I thought I did horrible and did ok. Maybe the curve will help you, etc. Bugging your professor won't really help or change the situation.

If you were prepared and did poorly due to difficulty, keep in mind that you are probably not the only one.

I wouldn't e-mail the professor. Whatever grade that you got, you got at this point. E-mailing would only bring attention to you. Is this a general biology class or an upper level biology course?

general biology. i just couldn't sleep for the past 2 days worrying. I want to at least ask if there is going to be some sort of curve. would that be a good idea or bad idea

From your screen name it looks like you're a freshman in college (2013). A lot of people mess up, or at least think they messed up, their first semester and that their dreams are over. Not true. You still have at least 3 years worth of classes to build upon your grades. Losing sleep now is just being ridiculous.

Enjoy your break.

I'm actually a sophomore. I am taking biology and organic chemistry right now and I have an A- in ochem. Freshmen year I finished with a 3.65 GPA. I have never made a C in my life and if I get it in a stupid class like bio, I will commit suicide.

wow relax. stop saying these things...it's just a grade, you'll probably laugh at this in the future. Just wait and see what happens then if you feel like your test was graded improperly or you're worried go see the professor after you get your score, etc. Also a C is not death for premeds. You need to relax.

Wow relax buddy! This thread is def going to get locked b/c of your statement. :d

But before it does, I just want to say that you should figure out what went wrong, and go from there. You still have a long ways to go, and a C or whatever will not do much to you in the long run.

In b4 Lock.

OP, chill. You must be some tightly wound up **** for a C to cause you this much strife.

A while ago I decided to learn from my mistakes instead of worry about them. Its cliche but making the mistakes is how we learn. Dwelling on negative grades hurts and taking action about them feels good. Ideally, taking action changes the way you are wired to think of grades and eventually a low grade will just sharpen your mind and make you more determined.
B4lok!

There's more to life and an application than grades, relax.

Many people get accepted with significant academic blemishes.

No offense OP, but a quick review of your previous posts reveals plentiful hyperbole and histrionics over similarly minor issues. You're a sophomore in college. The road to and through medical school will only get busier and more hectic as the years go on. Take a breath and enjoy your youth. If you are unable to, you might want to consider an alternate profession.

If bio is a stupid class, why are you pursuing medicine?
Also, I would not email the professor. If I were one, and a student emailed me in a panic about their grade, before it was calculated, I would ask why they didn't prepare more for the exam.
Maybe you should take the grade you get as a chance to reflect on whether or not medicine is what you want.

Or just relax and enjoy winter break...
