hey hey guys.

i just wanted to say thanks for the motivation and great information ive recieved by lurking over the past semester. if yall dont know i was a business major at temple undergrad, and moved across the country, and started working at an orthodontists office full time while going to a local junior college to start my dental prereqs.

Bio I and Chem I are done, with a 3.5.

I am going to tackle Chem II and a poli sci class over summer, and if financial aid goes through, i will be at a 4 year private university in the fall.

Just wanted to keep yall posted, and to say thanks, again.

Congratulations on your good grades!! Keep it up and keep us updated!! Also, continue maintaining those good grades, as it will pay off, I'm sure!!

i don't want to brag but i think the results of my semester are worth noting.

Chem I - A 5 cr
Bio I - A 5 cr
Physics I - A 5 cr
Gen. Psych - B 4 cr
Elective - A 3 cr

22 credit semester, good results, you think i'm d-school material??

I'll let you know when your Organic grades are in. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA just kidding, that's an awesome start, UMD.

No, its true. Upper division courses get hard, fast. If you get As/Bs in Org. Chem I/II, Biochem, Genetics, Microbiology, and Human Anatomy, then I'd say you were dental school material for sure. =)

just a couple additions, chem I was a retake due to that fact it will be past 5 years when I last took it. I have already had organic I and II but will have to take them again because of the 5 year rule. I had an A in org I and a B in org II 2 years ago. I took anatomy last semester and got an A-, taking 2 summer classes right now, physiology and motor learning. i'm currently into my upper division core classes for my major (exercise physiology, biomechanics, exercise testing and prescription, etc) so I know about upper division classes.

I honestly think the lower division classes are tougher for the most part. Why? because the physics, bio, chem are all weedout classes. the teachers don't teach towards seeing you do well on an exam, they teach you towards failure. how is this true you may ask??? it's easy, just look at your results from the exams which are basically t-test's. what's a t-test (transfer test)? a test to see how well practice prepared you to perform a task or skill, i'm currently learing about this in motor learning. teachers that don't present exams that are a representive of what they present to us as students will result in lower t-test (exam) scores. in my opinion, when a teacher doesn't base his exam material on what he/she presents in class, then they are preparing a student for failure on exams.

take all the national testing exams or high shool graduation tests for example. teachers say they don't want to teach "to pass the exam." but yet they want every student to pass these exams. the best method of practice/preparation is to teach for the exams. doing this results in higher transfer of learning.

if anyone needs an upper division class that is really really interesting and provides insite in to how we formulate movements but also how we are wired mentally, I recommend taking a MOTOR LEARNING course. it would probably be locacted in the physiology or kinesiology department of your school. I have it right now for summer session but it's one of the most interesting classes i have had yet. totally recommend it.

Hi, Rick,
Nice to see you here. Congrad on your grades. Just keep it up and get involved at the free dental clinic. Hope to see you more at our meetings though =) If you are staying over the summer, we have various programs running. Let me know if you are interested.

UMDeeMan,
great stats. it sucks that you have to retake your classes. i guess we go thru different paths and find ourselves in dentistry =)
