So I got a C in my Bio II course at the end of the last semester. Prior to the final, I required a 116% in order to get an A, so I was content with the B, although not studying as hard for the final. In a bad course of events, I underestimated the test and scored just below what I needed to maintain the B. In fact, I missed the B by one exam question exactly (My professor doesn't curve or round up. I was at like a 79.6, and the only grades in the course were the three exams plus final).

My Gen chem I grade was an A, and my gen chem II grade was a B. I got an A in all my labs. Now my GPA first semester was pretty strong, a 3.8ish. Because of this C I lowered down to a 3.5 (I only took 12 credits second semester. Long story). Now, I have no doubt I'll raise that GPA as the only tough courses I have left are O chem and Physics, and the rest are just for my psych major. The problem is, how bad will a C look for medical school?

Now my university offers grade replacement opportunities. I can retake the class and the new grade is recalculated toward my GPA. Problem is, it doesn't "remove" the C, rather it superimposes it. It'll still show a C on my transcript. The FAQs for a GRO say that in admissions to graduate school (i.e., medical, law, etc) tend to disregard GROs so it's not worth retaking the course (unless it's to revert a failing grade).

Question is, do I retake Bio II, this time possibly shooting for the A since I'm pretty confident on the material, it's just an underestimation of what was expected? Or should I just strive for A's in O chem and physics (And Bio I, I still have to take that). Will a general progression of good grades offset this one slip up? Or should I *also* do the GRO to show that I'm dedicating to amending mistakes? Will they consider the GRO or is it a wasted effort?

Alright, I was probably overreacting. And this C was most likely a fluke due to not being prepared for no curve + only four grades. I'm used to homework or quizzes to provide somewhat of a buffer. And the averages in curved classes are always so lolworthy that it's easy getting 25%+ higher without any studying.

I'll just make sure to buckle down next year. How does Bio I compare to Bio II? I'm used to concept-based classes which is why I can get by in Chem with little to no studying. I underestimated that Bio is essentially memorization and didn't put in the effort to memorize the material. That and the tests were really annoying (A, B, and C options, then an "A and B but not C" and "B and C but not A", etc, etc). It's almost as if they don't test the material, but try and trick you with triple negatives in the wording.
