I could def call schools but wanted to know if anyone had some personal experience with this. I'm gonna take a biochem lab class and it's under the bio department, not chem. It's my understanding that I can count this as part of the bio lab prerequisite since it's listed under BIO. What do you guys think?

No, the school that lists this as a prereq. I don't really recall any of the schools I applied to requiring biochemistry lab, or any high-level bio lab. So I was just wondering what school it was so I could see what the actual requirement is.

Oh let me clarify. I'm taking a biochem lab course and wanted it to count as part of my bio lab prerequisite. I'm missing a semester of bio lab and most require a years worth. It's listed in the BIO department so I was wondering if it would count

I'll have to look to see if I can find it, but I recall several schools that specifically stated that biochemistry could not be used to fulfill the biology requirement. I've seen some that say you can substitute biochem for the second semester of o-chem, though, but only a few that I've come across.

Even for the lab component? Damn that's a bummer.

Looks like you may need to go through and check with your schools individually, as it appears to vary...

University of Vermont, direct from their website:

"*botany or biochemistry do not fulfill the biology requirement"

On the other hand, you've got University of Iowa, which states:

"*Biochemistry is a pre-requisite under chemistry, but can be taken to fulfill either the chemistry or the advanced biology course requirement."

Basically, your mileage may vary depending on which schools you're applying to. To be on the safe side, I'd want to cover my bases and take a traditional bio class so as not to risk it, but that's just me.

Thank you. I'll probably end up taking a 2 unit bio lab class then.

Your best bet would be to take a biology lab, either low level or advanced level.

Some schools definitely do allow you to substitute biochemistry lab for a semester of biology lab--some schools, though.

Edit: Advanced level would be most beneficial, as you'll learn much more (especially since you've already taken biochemistry lab) and it'll look better.

I've worked in a lab for 4 yrs and am familiar with almost all techniques for a variety of things. I'm just doing it for the credits
