I've posted this question in another thread, but it seems like it's slipped through the cracks so I wanted to create a separate thread on it. Bio I at my school is divided into two portions; one is lab, and the other is lecture. For lab, I've gotten an A. For lecture, unfortunately, I wound up getting a C-. I've put much effort into studying, but I did not know precisely what I was going to be tested on; areas that I did thoroughly study were not presented in the exams much, if at all.

I was wondering, if I were to take another biology course later--such as human or developmental (without lab, specifically)--and get a perfect grade, would it override the C- I had gotten in terms of the one-year bio prerequisite?

It won't erase it or "override it" but you can enter it in the place of the other bio on you application. So they see it first before exploring your GPA more.

With that being said, they will still see your C- but an upward trend is nice. Just make sure the science course is of equal difficulty or harder.

Im 90% sure that while you got a C- in the lab component, the composite 4 credit grade is how they would look at it. So yeah, technically you're C- in the lab falls under the "C in all pre req coursework" stipulation. But since you're overall course grade is like a B+ or thereabouts, I am almost positive that it will still count. I was a lab TA in a similar situation and had to field this question for some of the kids in my class and this is how the pre med committee at my school posed it to me. I would still follow up maybe by sending AACOM an email, but I think you're good.

Thank you for your suggestions!

I've sent a message to an AACOM advisor regarding this; hopefully, they do add the grades together and average it into a B+, or something along the lines.

Sadly, it seems they will not combine them together when calculating GPA. That's a bummer. I likely won't have time to take Bio I again until Fall 2018, unless I go with UNE.

I've been in touch with my school regarding this dilemma, and it seems that they won't allow me to retake only the lecture portion; I'll have to take lab as well (in which I've already got an A).

If I were to take Bio I lecture someplace else, would anyone know if it'd be accepted by AACOM?
