As I am finishing up my app and slowly freaking out, I have some questions on bio prereqs.

I am a career changer so here are my bio credentials

Concepts of Bio I 3 sem hrs (no lab)

Human Anatomy (no lab) 3 sem hrs

Intro to Human Physiology 2.75 sem hrs

Human Anatomy (dry lab) 2.75 sem hrs

Human Structure and Function (dry lab) 2.75 sem hrs

Is it prudent to take another bio I class with lab? I talked with one of the schools I am applying to, and they waived the lab. I'm not sure about Governors State or Midwestern.

Anyone have any advice? I want to get my PTCAS finished up in the next week or so.

Thanks

Did you happen to take two of those anatomy courses at Northwestern's SCS per chance? I recognize the title, the dry lab, and the 2.75 hours (woo quarter system! haha)

If you're applying to NU, all those will count since you took them there and it's part of the SCS pre-PT certificate. (I'm assuming you did...if not, ignore this sentence).

Generally speaking though, most schools want two non-anatomy/physiology biology courses...if you can, try to sneak in another bio class at a community college or something. I did an intro course like you did, and then I took a microbiology course. Check with the schools you're applying to to make sure micro (or whatever you take) will qualify. Some schools may count the extra anatomy classes, but not all will. So yes, you may want another general bio course.

Don't worry about not having cadaver experience...a lot of people in my PT class didn't have prior experience, or if they did they didn't actually dissect anything. Some schools require it, but many would be fine with a dry lab (after all, on the apps it just asks "with lab" or "without lab"...dry lab is still a lab).

Your best bet though is to email Governor's and Midwestern to check if you're concerned about the lab requirement.

Thanks!

I did take the scs pre-pt stuff at Northwestern, which is why I am hoping it adds a little more clout rather than a stupid bio lab. I am heading to a meeting a GSU next week, so I'll ask then. If push comes to shove I can take one in the summer before I start, I am just hoping I get accepted to UIC or Northwestern and I don't have to worry about.

Thanks again.
