Hello, I'm an RN with an ADN (associate's degree in nursing)from a community college. I already have Anatomy & Phys. 1,2 and Micro. These three will all transfer to my University at the Bio 200 level. Should these take care of my one year of "general Bio." prereq. for most med schools or do I need to take the year of 100 level Bio?

By the way, these are the only of the main sciences I plan to use from the community college, in case you planned on questioning that. I know the University classes are preferred. Thanks!

You may want to take intro to biology or something similar at the university. Courses you have are good, but I don't think they are considered general.

How do you take Micro without General Bio as a pre-req? Don't worry too much about taking classes in community college unless you plan on applying to Ivy League schools.
I am pretty sure you need to take a year of General Biology, not only for med school requirements, but also to help prepare you for the MCAT.
Good luck.

You should look at a bio MCAT practice exam or review book. Then you can determine if you know the info or not. As far as the official school prerequisites, you should ask them directly if those particular courses cover the requirement.

Yea mostly what has been said. E-mail admissions directors. Its always good to take upper division Bio (Like you have all this free time). Consider biochem, genetics, cell.
I'm wondering if in your e-mails if you shouldn't mention some courses with Bio backbones like pharmacology, & pathophysiology. 👍

At my university General Biology, a one semester class, is required for EVERYONE, non-science majors included. Did you check with your transfering university about their policy? It may be a non-issue and you have to take it. Chances are if you are going to be a biology major or even chemistry major all the lower level sciences like that are required.

BTW, that is a hillarious movie.

Wayne State Med school (where I plan on going) just emailed me back and they said it wouldn't be necessary to take the lower level courses, but they'd like to see additional bio course work at a university level. Maybe I'll just take a semester of general bio (100 level). That should prepare me for the MCAT better than the higher level stuff...shouldn't it?
