The thyroid gland secretes, among other things, thyroxine and triiodothyronine, which are derived from the iodination of the amino acid tyrosine. Additionally, iodine deficiency and inflammation of the thyroid causes hypothyroidism. Thus the iodide in KI would affect the thyroid. That is my understanding...

I missed that question too. But once I saw the answer I realized why it was obvious. I don't think we necessarily have to know it in the same detail as VivaLaVida's post, but you should know the T3 and T4 hormones from the thyroid have iodine in them (from their full name) and then be able to deduce that that would therefore be the most affected gland.

yes, it's needed to make T4 thyroxine and T3 in the thyroid gland of the endocrine system. They have started to put iodine into salt as a way to treat goiter disease. T3 = triiodo.......

yeah, just remember that anything with iodide has to do with thyroid. eg goitr.
