I just took a top score bio section test, and I do not undersatnd the answer to this question on symbiotic relationships.

Protozoa in the gut of a termite is an example of what type of symbiotic relationship??

I thouht the answer would be parasitism (-/+), but the correct answer was actually mutalism (+/+).

Can anyone PLEASE explain!! I realize the termite can eat more wood this way, but that doe snot necessary benifit him.

The reason why it is mutalism is both benefit. The terminte cannot digest the cellulose on it's own, but the protozoa which is found inside the terminites digestive tract can. In return the protozoa has a food and a place to live within the terminte therefore each benefits from one another
