In the case of synapse, receptors are on one side of synapse and neurotrasmitter releasers are on the other side. So it's definitely, one way.

The axon is the second best answer because technically it may be possible to 1st open voltage gated channels at the synpatic side of an axon or at the soma side. So, technically you can have a transmission in each direction although usually the direction is soma->synapse.
