A rectifier is an electrical device that allows current to flow only in one direction. In human physiology, an analogous device is the

A. axon
B. dendrite
C. synapse
D. Schwann cell
E. spinal nerve

I put A , but according to kaplan, it's C. Can anybody explain why?

In the case of synapse, receptors are on one side of synapse and neurotrasmitter releasers are on the other side. So it's definitely, one way.

The axon is the second best answer because technically it may be possible to 1st open voltage gated channels at the synpatic side of an axon or at the soma side. So, technically you can have a transmission in each direction although usually the direction is soma->synapse.

Thanks a lot dat_student. I'll definitely remember that.
