Can anyone please explain where did placenta and umbilical cord originated from

Hey,

So this is part of extraembryonic development. The Chorion, which is the outer membrane of the embryo (which is used for gas exchange), later becomes (with maternal tissue) becomes the placenta.

The Allantois, which stores waste products and also plays a roll in gas exchange, forms the umbilical cord, which functions in transporting gasses, nutrients, and water between the embryo and the placenta.

Just to add on - the chorion originates from the trophoblast and all other extraemryonic membranes originate from the embryonic disc.

Some tests say that allantois is the one making up placenta.

That is why I was confused... cause in KBB it says that Chorion did become a placenta but they mentions that allantois and amnion becomes the umbilical cord...
