I have a question on biology. I have used a software for practicing bio.
A massive mudslide diverts a river into a new pond, allowing turtles potential access to new mates. This influx of alleles into the pond is known as

The answer key says the answer is A, but I chose B. The explanation says that new genes are introduced into the gene pool. But I do not see where the migration occurs. Since the mudslide is an unexpected event, I went with genetic drift as my answer.

The migration is stated in the question as 'allowing the turtles access to new mates'. The river had turtles that can now go in the pond and vice versa. This is a classic example of gene flow.

I picked Genetic Drift too! But yeah the answer is Gene flow. Gene flow is basically genes coming into the gene pool or leaving. Genetic drift is the shifting of alleles by random chance (Like more recessive than dominant vice versa).

The answer is Gene flow since new genes are introduced from an outside population.....genetic drift would be if there was a change in allele frequency in a population solely do to random mating/chance
