The two products of the light reactions of photosynthesis that are required for the "synthetic dark" reactions are ATP and

a. carbondioxide
b. the reduced form of coenzyme NADP
c. oxygen
d. glucose
e. ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate (RuBP)

Ok, why is the answer here b. I thought c, because O2 is produced in the light reactions, and use in the dark reactions to produce glucose???

4.
Veterbrate skeletal muscle is able to contract as a result of muscle membrane depolarization due to the action of

a. neutrotransmitters
b. Calcium ions
c. actin and myosin
d. phosphocreatine
e. myoglobin

here i thought the answer was b, since the release of calsium ion cause muscle contraction, but answer is a????😱 explanation?

5.
Assuming that all are of the same size, which of the following fishes would you expect to produce the greatest volume of urine per unit time ?

a. Bony fish living in freshwater.
b. Bony fish living in an estoary
c. Bony fish living in the ocean
d. Shark living in the ocean
e. All about the same

Ok, tricky! The answer is a, but why. Is it that fish in hypoosmotic envirom. tend to intake water, thereby excreting lots of urine afterwards???😕

8. Hydrogen bonds

a. have bond energy about equal to covalent bonds
b. have bond energy much larger than covalent bonds
c. are important in maintaining protein conformations
d. are too weak to be of importance in biological molecules .
e. are any bonds between hydrogen and another atom

Why is the answer here not b, but tend to be more C or C is the right answer

Thanks folks👍

Question 3.
You're right, O2 is produced but the question is asking for what is required. ATP and NAPDH are used, CO2 is reduced to a carbohydrate and O2 is liberated.

Question 4.
I think the key word is 'depolarization' and you should then think of neurotransmitters. Contracting involves action potentials throughout the skeletal muscle fiber.

Question 5.
I'm guessing that since the water will travel from low to high concentration that the urine will accumulate the most. If in salt water, the water would travel to the environment, then the fish would be sucked dry 😛

Just to add:

Q4: Acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter, opens calcium channels on muscle fibers causing depolarization.

Q8: Hydrogen bonds are weaker than covalent bonds. However, H-bonds play in an important role in forming secondary and tertiary structures in proteins (e.g. alpha helices and beta sheets)

Q1-make sure you know you light and dark reactions
the fact that dark reaction doesn't necessarily happen at night, dark reaction (Calvin cycle) needs to get the ATP and NADPH produced by light reaction. Now, NADP gets reduced to NADPH. In calvin cycle CO2 is fixed

Q2-calcium ion is released after the neurotransmitter has done it's job
Q3-in fresh water you have more solute concentration inside the fish than outside therefore the water would rush in and the fish is going to have to pump it out just like protozoa in fresh water
Q4-covalent bond is stronger than hydrogen bond. secondary and tertiary protein have H-bond
good luck
