Hey all, I have a question about biology requirement. It says that you need a year of biology. I have taken General Bio I and physiology (higher bio level). Does my physiology class count as one of my bio requirements. Any one knows??? Should I ask that question during my interview or just never mention it. Any thoughts???

well, I have. It says one year of biology so I dont know if physiology counts !!

If I was an admissions councelor I'd let you in. But i'm not. So give them a call or email them to find out for sure.

I didn't really know there was such thing as a general biology designated course at the college level. I would expect things to be a little more focussed to a branch.

My two first year biology courses were zoology (excellent) and botany (absolutely dreadful).

How many of you guys had labs accompany lectures in first and second year? I've been hearing that these are disappearing at some institutions, so that labs start in third year.

I'm in the same situation and wondering the same thing. Personally, I think physiology should be fine but I want to know for sure. I have emails in to a few schools, I'll let you know what I find out.

If you are going to contact a school regarding this, I'd say email them to make sure you have their response in writing. Just in case it is needed later...

at my school, general bio means 200, 201, 202, which were cell biology, zoology, bio of populations. after we took those plus general chemistry, then we could take cell physiology.

AFAIK, most schools have year's worth of general biology courses (2 semesters or 3 quarters) before you get into the heavy stuff.

So far, one school told me that physiology is fine and another school told me that I should really take general biology. Clearly it is going to vary by school, so I would definitely contact each school that you are applying to.
