Hi all,

Just had a quick question on AMCAS class designations. I'm mock calculating my GPA and I've had a couple biology seminars and I'm not quiet sure how they are assigned? The subject through my school is "BIOL" and the course description focuses on learning more about the major, future options, etc. I can say the class was biology focused. Would this still go through as BCPM? I'm also TA'ing for a biology lab course, again the subject is BIOL. I'm assuming this would be BCPM also? I'm wondering for others how these type of courses have gone through?

Thanks!

I took a seminar class and also was a UTA for a biol class. Although they were listed under BIOL, AMCAS listed them as "OTHER". Also, if youre asking if these classes would affect your BCPM GPA, I am not sure because mine were P/F and did not affect my GPA

Ok, thanks! Mine are both for credit graded, so they will affect my GPA somehow. Just wasn't sure what category they typically end up in.

What kind of bio seminar class did you take? It seems odd that the seminar format would make a difference?

It was a class where we were required to listen to speakers every week discuss their research in biological sciences. If you are confused about how to classify your course on amcas, just list it as BIOL and amcas will change it if they disagree. At that point, if you disagree with their designation, you can send them your course syllabus with a course description.

Did you ever find out how they were classified? I also took a seminar in bio/neuroscience and did TAing and I'm not sure if they will count towards my BCPM GPA.
