Hey guys,

I'm looking for a good biochem book for the step 1. I have the 2006 kaplan biochem book, and was wondering if you all found that to be a good review for the step. my school is quite weak on biochemistry, and i'm devoting about a month or so to learning biochem, I've heard of many titles, RR biochem, BRS biochem, and lippincotts. Which one(s) would you recommend me to get?

Also, If i got Micro made Rid Simple, and exclusively studied out of that for micro instead of the kaplan book, would that be sufficient? or should i stick to kaplan? Thanks a lot guys!

i used kaplan biochem book, its pretty good, i skimmed it in 3 days, at the beginning of my 5 weeks of studying annotating FA, then in the last 1.5 weeks, i just looked through FA over and over, and that worked great for me...

kaplan micro book has good margin summaries i studied that and FA micro and that was great for me too.

For biochem, get Lppincott's.

For micro, Rapid Review and Microcards.

I felt I had a pretty poor background on biochem going in. I thought DeJaVu Biochemistry was great because it presented the information in question and answer format. It pretty much walks you through the specific topics in a logical manner. But I did have a copy of Lippincott's handy to look up things that weren't quite clear. I thought that the combination worked wonders.

For micro, I read Micro Made Ridiculously simple about 3 months before my exam (during spring break) just because I had a poor micro background as well. But when it came time for review, I used Microcards. I didn't go over all of microcards though, but I found the diagrams to be VERY VERY USEFUL. I would use MMRS to review things that weren't quite clear on the flash cards. I am pretty sure I didn't miss any micro questions on my test.

Just my two cents...

i found rapid review biochem to be excellent - i don't like the amount of time that is needed for lippincott's biochem, but i am sure it is an excellent book (i own it and flipped through it every now and then).

rapid review microbio/immuno is also very good.

good luck!
