Hi,

I am about to start studying for step 1 (approx 8 weeks).

My over all strategy is simple - FA, RR path, goljan audio, Kaplan Q bank, and usmle world. And know these well.

Well I am doing some biochem in my spare time (and have done the same with micro) throughout the year and I am just not getting a grasp on it at all. I am trying to do it in advance to get a big picture idea of these subjects and its material to fill in the small holes later. But I am not really grasping anything??

Are there any big picture concepts/ideas to get with biochem? Do you have any suggestions of what to do with it? Are my sources adequate? I like world's explanations but the questions are ridiculous I feel, and every single circle and pathway keeps getting mixed up in my head.

Your advice is appreciated. Thanks.

For Biochem check out Kaplan's Biochem notes. They seem to cover the big picture reactions nicely. Plus it is written in paragraph form instead of outlines.

For Micro, I know it is cliche here, but Clinical Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple, really is a great book. It seems like a long read, but it is an easy read. It makes something as difficult to study as Micro a little bit better. Micro-Cards complement this book nicely when you want to review. Goljan's tables also cover tons of micro.

I recommend the same.
