Hey everybody,

I will be starting dental school this fall and I was recently looking at daily schedules for a few dental schools (via their websites). I noticed that Biochem was a BIG portion of the 1st year.

How much do you think it would help to take biochem before dental school? Should I go out of my way to take it, or just deal with it in the fall?

Thanks

I would recommend to take a biochem course before Dschool just to be familiar with the pathways/structures/kinetics. The subject is presented quite rapid, then you have one chance to comprehend. Given a background -- will allow one to focus on the volumes of other material to master.

I wish I had paid more attention in undergrad biochem. It did not help me with biochem in dental school, but I did not like the subject. If you take it, make sure you actually read the book and listen in class. Keep reminding yourself that it's going to help you in dental school.

I would contact some of the students where you've been accepted and ask them. At my dental school it wouldn't have helped because it's considered an easy class here...while Pathology, Histology, Human Anatomy are hard ones...take a class that prepares you for your hardest dental school science class AT THE SCHOOL YOU'VE BEEN ACCEPTED AT. It really varies by school.

It didnt really help me, as the topics were pretty different. It maybe helped me as a backgournd for one test, so if you think its worth that then maybe you should take it. Although it depends on the school as my state dental school required I take it to apply, but I didnt end up going there, so maybe it wouldve correlated more for my state school.
