A drug (d) has pK of 6.4 and pH of 7.4, which of the following approximates the ratio of unprotonated form to protonated.
a)0
b)0.1
c)1
d)10

I thought the answer would be (C) using the henderson hasselbalch equation but the answer is (d). I cannot understand what am i missing.😳

help please!!!

Hi,

I think it's maths step rather than board question. But we have to prepare for that too.

PH=PKa+log H/HA
7.4=6.4+log H/HA
log H/HA=1.00
log H/HA= log 10 ( log 10 = 1.00 )
H/HA = 10. That's your answer D, 10.

Hope you get it now.
