Right now I am currently taking 2 courses. I am retaking Chem IV which is inorganic 2 at my school and I am also taking biochem. I am only going to school part time and working the weekends. I wanted to keep the class load sort of low as I need to get A's in these classes to prove that I can handle the upper level courses. I am already graduated and I am doing an informal post back to try and get into medical school. There are a few questions I have regarding this class. I am a little scared considering this course at my school is considered a "GPA" killer. At the begining of class my teacher showed statistics of the grades she normally hands out for this class. Only 15-25% of the class recieve A's and it varies every sememester. We havent taken an exam yet and I know I can get an A in this class as I am only taking 2 classes and I find the class extremely interesting. However, what If I only get a B, will this do me in? Will it be looked down upon? maybe I am bieng a bit paranoid but this is a class you sit for IN med school so its important and some medical schools like to see that you have taken it. My second questions is, are there any specialties in medicine that involve lots of Biochem? I am falling in love with the class and I am thoroughly enjoying the lectures. The material you learn is interesting to me. Anyhoo, I know your probobly going, "if he likes it so much then he should definitly get an A what is he making this thread for?" Well, This professor is popular as bieng a stickler and just because you truly understand the material does not gaurantee you an A you have to be a good test taker as well. There are many other factors to your grade then just grasping the concepts.

Are you in my classes? lol

It's Chem IV at my school too. I'm taking that and Biochem this semester and my Biochem professor also showed us the stats of what percent get A's on the first day of class.

Biochem was my nemesis and I was a chem major. OTOH, I thought PChem was really easy - but I was also a math major. I'd take Pchem over Biochem any day if it were up to me. Study hard for biochem. Lots of memorizing there.

You are in both of my classes! lol. I wonder if I know you. If not, you should join our Pre-SOMA chapter. 😀 We will have a table at club fair today and tomorrow (though you and I will be in class during that time tomorrow).

But regarding Biochem, Eye Cue and I plan on being in that percent that gets A's. Feel free to study with us. We have been harping all summer on how badly we're going to kill this class. It's sad that it doesn't even stand a chance. :ninja:

wow this is a small world. I plan on smashing this class as well. Turns out I am only taking 2 classes, chem IV and Biochem. So i have PLENTY of time to study for this class. As far as coming to the pre-soma I can't I am a commuter and am only on campus from 11-2. I travel an hour every day whic sux but It needs to be done. I actually already have enough credits to graduate, I am trying to boost my GPA a little. I wonder if I know you guys as well. I am certainly down for studying however, any day after biochem I am free for the rest of the day.

Are you kidding me? 25% A's is a LOT! I'm used to hearing top 10% get A's... 15%-25% A's? I wouldn't stress out about the statistic. A part of me feels like some professors enjoy scaring people. 😎 You'll be fine, good job on your test!
