To finish my Chemistry degree next year i have the option of taking a quarter of biochem that is for all chemistry majors or i have the option to take the biochem that is offered for biochem majors which is a 3 quarter long sequence taught by the med school professor. Which course do you think will be better in terms of preperation for med school and how it will look on my transcript?

if it's taught by a med school professor then might as well go for that one, since 1st yr revolves around biochem

Take the longer one especially since its taught by the med school prof. Biochem really helps, especially for the MCAT I've found

Im guessing the biochem for all majors is just gen biochem, I would take that one because biochem helps alot on the MCAT, and you probably would not need the advanced biochem stuff in the other class. Don't risk your gpa 🙂

The 600 level class with the med school professor will probably look better than the 200 level class. Also, the med school professor is one of the better ones in the department imo.

(I'm assuming your at University of Cincinati)

Yea the regular biochem is like a 400 somethin level. I just didn't know if takin the 600 level would be worth the possible ht my gpa could take. Is Dr. Lieberman good? Also is biochem really beneficial for the mcat because i was planning on taking the mcat in september before classes start again.

Biochem makes the MCAT easier

Is it worth pushing back taking the MCAT to take biochem first?

No.

And in regards to which biochem you should take, it really doesn't matter. Adcoms won't look down on taking an "easier" biochem.

Most med schools don't require biochem anyway, so you will be ahead of some students no matter which one you take.

How did you not know the answer to this question?
