Biochemistry Advice

I am sorry to be a pain. I am a pre-med who is taking biochem next semester. Does any have any good websites or advice or good books or anything that can be helpful for this difficult course? Is there a book that simplifies the material better than a textbook, such a particular review, etc.? Thank so much in advanced.

Biochem was my favorite undergrad class, it is a hard class, but with the right approach it can easily be handled. What textbook are you going to be using? Lehninger's Biochem is a pretty good book in my opinion and it should be sufficient. However, just google gluconeogenesis, glycolysis, citric acid cycle, enzyme kinetics,.... and there should be plenty of sites that offer what you're looking for.

Yeah this was def one of my favorite classes as well. It really ties all of that bio and chem that I have been learning together. We used the Lehninger book which I thought was good.

My advice would be to just stick with the book that the professor asigns because he's most likely going to test and teach out of it. If you don't happen to like what you end up with then feel free to venture out, but beware biochem is a time consuming and memorization intense class. The difficulty in this class for me was definitely the amount of info that was covered and not the concepts behind them so alternative explanations etc. from different books wouldn't of really helped me. You'd probably be better off sticking to one source and just memorizing it - jumping from source to source might hurt you at the end of the day if it takes time away from your being able to focus on one thing.

I used Cliff Notes for Biochemistry. It helped a lot with breaking everything down.

Thanks so much for the advice. I managed to acquire the biochem book that you guys are talking about. I looked through it and feel it's a good book due to its colorful design. We are using Biochemistry by Veot (http://www.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-047119350X.html). Not sure if it's a good book, but then again I don't really have much of a choice.

I know that biochem is not like any other class, but what study approach did you guys use. Did you just redraw the rxns a few times, like one would do in orgo, to help with the memorization portion? Thanks so much.
