I'd like to take biochem in case I get into my dream school (Mayo) which requires it. I did my post-bac at Loyola, and would love to take it there, but I'm working in the loop, and driving up to Loyola three days a week would be rough. I see that Northwestern's continuing studies school has biochem from Jan-March this winter with Greg Wallace from 6:15-9:15pm. I believe that Wallace is new (definitely not on ratemyprofessors), so I doubt anyone would have any advice on how he is. But has anyone here taken biochem in Northwestern's continuing studies program? The only description they have on what it covers is: "Major areas and principles of biochemical processes at the molecular level; structure, metabolism, energetics, and control mechanisms." I'm not sure that my grade will really matter, but I've heard that Northwestern's post-bac classes have killer curves, and I'd hate to have to kill myself at this point just to get a decent grade (class has a max of 35 students in it). I got A's in all post-bac classes at Loyola except an A- in orgo I and a B in orgo II.
I'm trying to get into UIC's biochem class for this spring (it's during the day, but a lot closer to the loop), but I've missed the registration deadline, so that's unlikely. DePaul doesn't have biochem I this coming (spring) semester, and I don't believe UofChicago does either. And Northeastern is too far for a day commute while working. And if I take biochem over the summer, I may only have one or two weeks after biochem ends before med school starts. I can't imagine that'd be ideal. So, that leaves me with Northwestern. A good idea? Or wait and take it this summer, full-time, right before med school?
Thanks for any advice anyone has who's taken biochem already as a post-bac!
