My first choice of DO schools is UNE. In the requirements they state that 4 semesters of chemistry is required, one of which must be Biochemistry. I have taken 2 semesters of inorganic chemistry and 2 semesters of organic chemistry. I plan on taking Biochemistry this summer or the Fall of 2004, (I am applying for the Fall of 2005 class). My situation is this. In my second semester of organic chemistry I got a D and did not repeat this class. I have noticed on a lot of forums that a "C" in all required classes is pretty standard for most DO schools. Should I try to squeeze in a biochemstry class before I apply in June 2004? If I had this D in organic chemistry when I apply in June 2004 do you think my application will get rejected? Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks😕

Why don't you call the admissions office and ask them? It'll show you're interested in their school which is always good.

Hello,

I am a second year at UNE and didn't take the Biochem requirement until after I'd already been accepted. they will not hold it against you if you do not take it before you apply, just as long as you complete it prior to starting. But, like the previous poster said, the safest way to know for sure is to call and ask!

Good luck!

I think the D in organic will hurt you. Some schools ( I don't know if this is the case with UNE) will not consider the prereq fulfilled with a grade under C.
I would advise retaking it before you apply.

you need orgo 2 for the MCAT, so you still need to take it. If you don't take it you won't be eligible for most of the other schools out there. So, apparently, you'll need orgo 1,2 and one semester of biochem.
