I'm exactly like you: class of 97 taking NBDE-I in December.
The way I'm doing with Biochemistry is different than any other subject that you can "see what you are studying". Since Anatomy, Histology, Dental Anatomy and most of the topics of part-I are very "visual", once you have to just memorize concepts you can have a hard time (like you in Biochemistry).
What I've done in the past for the National Boards from my country of origin was an active approach. Instead of being a passive "memoryzer", using a notebook you develop a patern for every single structure and try to associate/compare one with another (composition/structure of sugars compared with proteins, then function, then whatever...same thing with different hormones/endocrines). Once you have that structured, you go to the questions and you try to answer it on backwards, like developing questions with similar structure to the original, where the answer would be A), then the same thing so the answer would be B) and so on...
Sometimes, making it more visual drawing the structures can help you as well.
Good luck to you,
