so we just started learning biochem in school...lipid metabolism is pretty hard. high yield biochem is amazing!

so on the boards, what kinds of biochem questions are asked? do i need to memorize reactions and enzymes or will they be clinical vignettes? there is just too much to memorize! can you give me any example questions? i dont know where to get biochem questions from. plus, first aid barely has any of these complicated reactions that we are learning and that are in high yield.

your help is appreciated.

As far as I can remember from the actual test, they do test specific enzymes and stuff to a certain extent, but those questions are generally fairly straightforward (i.e. FA caliber). I was very worried about biochem, but ended up doing fine because the questions were so similar to Qbank etc. Good luck!

So as far as Biochem goes, First Aid is all most people need/use? My biochem class is about to rap up and I was wondering how much of this crap I need to remember. I was thinking of getting HY Biochem, but if FA will cover all I need, then I can cheep out. 😀

If you had only done FA and Qbank, you would have done very well on the biochem questions I got on my step 1. Generally, the questions were very straightforward in the sense that they would describe symptoms and ask for the enzyme most likely to cause them. As I said, I'm no biochem wiz, but I didn't get any questions that were too bad. If I didn't know the answer, I generally thought I had a pretty good idea or knew that I had read about it somewhere but it just didn't stick.

thanks for the feedback.

anyone else have anything to add bout their experience with biochem?

if high yield, brs and FA are all board review books...how come they have different levels of details?
