Hey,

I've just been accepted to NYU and Pitt (not sure which one I'll pick yet). I never took Biochem as an undergrad and neither one of the schools requires it as a prerequisite. Schould I take Biochem nonetheless in the summer prior to staring dental school??

Thanks

If you take biochem, it will help a lot. If you do not want grade pressure, than you can just sit in the class and take notes.

dont let it influence your decision....you will be taught what you need to know for boards. if you are smart to get in they feel you can do the work with or without the taking the course pre-admission.

Hey, I am in the same boat as you alphabet. I am going to Pitt and I have not taken any undergrad biochem courses, although I hear more so than not that we will be ok and will be taught well what we need to know. I have been told to just relax until then. I'm sure it would be a prerequisite if the schools believed we were going to be doomed. When was your interview? 🙂

The fact that you guys were accepted to D-school shows you guys aren't dumb. Biochem. is pretty easy just as long as you put in the time, so I wouldn't sweat it. The majority of the concepts are straight forward and quite interesting to study. Best of luck.

I'm a D1 at nyu. You do not need to take biochem in undergrad. The class is easy. Memorize the pathways and spit them back out. 😀

yeah Dental916 is telling the truth. I really wouldn't worry about it though. Just know major pathways and know what can happen if you disrupt the pathway. NYU isn't so bad with biochem. you literally get a comedian for a professor. he will make you laugh all through lecture, so much as to make miss out on what the hell he is teaching.
