Ok so I know this forum is full of prodigies and academic studs but I am running into a wall here with biochemistry.

I took NBME form 1 and did above average on Biochem, Took the shelf and did above average on biochem, HOWEVER whenever I try to do Kaplan Q-bank biochem I get completely slammed with like a 30-50% . Is Kaplan Q-bank going into too much detail for biochem or what is the deal?

I keep plugging away at biochem but I almost wonder if studying biochem alone is worth my time. I did a systems based approach to studying in my last semester of pre-clin and turned out really well on shelf and form one compared to my classmates especially since I aint exactly an honors student (in fact I am a Caribbean student with ADD and dyslexia).

Has anyone who scored over the national average (assuming 215) just done systems based studying?

I’d be much appreciative of your help

IMO, it's pretty difficult to integrated a sufficient amount of biochemistry into systems-based studying. I read and highly recommended RR biochem, but others have had good experiences with Kaplan as well.

Good luck.
