I am transferring to Uni soon and Biochemistry is a major choice as well as Chemistry-Biology (pre-med track).

It seems the major difference between the two is the former (Biochemistry) requires 2 semesters of P-Chem, Calc II, 2 semester of Calculus based physics and 2 semester of Biochmeistry. Chemistry-Biology requires 1 semester of P-Chem, only Calc I & Stats, 2 semesters of Calc OR Algebra based physics, and 1 semester of Biochemistry.

I have completed calc I and two semesters of Algebra based physics. Should I transfer in as a Chemistry-Biology major?
Or should I spend a year retaking Physics I & II along with Calc II?

Taking the biochemistry track is unlikely to do anything but put your GPA, and thus your chances at med school admission, at risk compared to your other option. Unless you have a burning desire to have a degree in biochem and are confident you can keep your GPA just as high on that track as the other, do the chem-bio degree. The degree will not make one bit of a difference to adcoms, so how it would look is not a factor at all.:luck:

I would go with the chemistry-biology major. There is no reason to retake physics.

Take biochemistry. I'm a biochem major and i have to say its by far the most interesting hybrid of the two fields i find most interesting (chem, bio). In terms of physics, i know it sucks that you have to retake it but it can help your GPA as well if you do well. Biochemistry is a new field and for a long time was a very specialized field of organic chemistry. Additionally, theres quite a lot of things you can do with a biochemistry degree.

I would do neither lol. You don't wanna take pchem!

Chemistry-Biology sounds like a general pre-med track, whereas biochem would be a much more specialized degree gearing towards biochem, even though both will prepare you for med school. I regret doing the general pre-med track at my school (called Biomedical Sciences) and would have much rather preferred to do biochem. However, do keep in mind the tougher requirements of biochem. You would really have to have an interest in the subject to go through physics and calc again.

Also, depending on your scheduling, you could probably take other biochem classes as a chemistry-biology major. Even though I'm not a biochem major and advanced biochem isn't required for me, I am still able to take it as an upper level elective.

Or you could just do Biology (if you don't like p-chem) or Chemistry, or English, or Math, or Music, or...

You can major in whatever you want, just fulfill the med school prereqs. If you don't want to take p-chem, than don't bother doing a chem-related major at all. If you really like Psych, major in that.
